Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a philosophy of medicine where “First Do No Harm” is one of the leading principles of practice. It is a primary care approach that emphasizes treatment plans that start with the least invasive therapies first. Dr. Gochberg works closely with patients to develop treatment plans together, often working on the acute presentation of the issue as well as the underlying cause together. She offers preventative services and wellness exams as well as specialty consults around specific conditions. Although Dr. Gocheberg manages prescription medications and other supplements, she has a strong philosophy in food as medicine and sustainable lifestyle modification. She uses nutritional therapies, tailored herbalism, and biofeedback in her practice. She also includes physical medicine such as soft tissue massage, trigger point release, muscle energy stretching, spinal manipulation, and hydrotherapy as part of her naturopathic practice.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has a rich history of eclectic use for many health conditions. Several modern medicines today were isolated from plants. Most popular herbs also have a strong background of research supporting their use. You may be prescribed herbs in the form of capsules, tinctures, raw herbs or granules to be made into a tea.

Biofeedback is a form of therapy that falls under the umbrella of MindBody Medicine. In its narrowest definition, biofeedback is where electronic monitoring of automatic body functions are used to train an individual to gain voluntary control of that function. Functions that are monitored include breath rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, and skin conductance. Dr. Gochberg practices Biofeedback from a mindfulness perspective, where the monitoring of body functions is used to create awareness of emotional states and automatic thought processes that are deeply ingrained. Through training of awareness and of regulating physiologic functions, biofeedback can create space not only around anxiety and depression but can also change one’s relationship with chronic physical pain.

Dr. Gochberg practices a variety of bodywork modalities including soft tissue massage, trigger point release, muscle energy stretching, spinal manipulation, and hydrotherapy. Most of these therapies are fairly gentle and focus on balancing the fascial planes of the body in order to restore functioning and alleviate pain. Oftentimes deep-seated emotions trapped in body tissues can be released gently and effectively through bodywork. Dr. Gochberg often pairs bodywork with breath and mindfulness training to further unleash old tensions and increase functionality. With this combination of approaches, Dr. Gochberg works to optimize her patients' sense of comfort and safety within their own bodies by reducing pain, increasing performance, and re-training the body's and nervous system's reactions to stress.
