Explanation

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) offers a sophisticated, non-invasive way to "retune" the neural pathways of the brain. TMS is an FDA-cleared, drug-free treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain associated with mood regulation and cognitive function. It is a powerful tool for those seeking relief from mental health conditions that have not fully responded to traditional therapies.

How TMS works

TMS utilizes a small electromagnetic coil placed near the scalp. This coil delivers focused magnetic pulses—similar in strength to an MRI—that pass painlessly through the skull to stimulate nerve cells in the brain.

By activating these underactive regions, TMS helps "reset" the brain’s electrical activity, encouraging neuroplasticity and fostering a more resilient, balanced mental state. Because it is highly targeted, it does not produce the systemic side effects often associated with oral medications.  You can learn more on the NeuroStar TMS site.

Clinical Benefits

  • Targeted Mood Support: Effective for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and OCD.

  • Adolescent Care: TMS is a safe and effective treatment option for adolescent depression.

  • Non-Invasive & Drug-Free: No anesthesia, no recovery time, and no systemic side effects like weight gain or brain fog.

  • Cognitive Enhancement: Many patients report improved focus, clarity, and "mental brightness."

  • Synergistic Care: Can be safely used alongside our other offerings, such as naturopathic and psychiatric care, acupuncture, and biofeedback, to deepen the healing process.

What to expect

Your TMS journey begins with a comprehensive assessment to ensure this therapy is the right fit for your unique needs.

  • The Session: You will be comfortably seated in a reclining chair. A small magnetic coil will be placed against your head.

  • The Sensation: During the treatment, you will hear a clicking sound and feel a light tapping sensation on the scalp, often compared to the tapping of a metronome.

  • Afterward: Each session lasts approximately 18–40 minutes. Because TMS requires no sedation, you can drive yourself home and return to your daily activities immediately.

  • The Rhythm: For optimal results, TMS is typically administered in a series of 29-36 sessions over several weeks, allowing the brain to gradually strengthen its new, healthy patterns.

Patients who may benefit

We recommend TMS for individuals who are navigating:

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

  • Adolescent Depression

  • Treatment-resistant Anxiety

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • The desire for a non-pharmacological approach to mental health
